On looking at the table this was a foregone conclusion. Newtowne unbeaten at the top and Eglinton winless at the bottom but from the 1 st minute Eglinton quickly set about there business closing down being strong and determined in the tackle. Once Newtowne got to grips with this and started playing there 1 and 2 touch football that they have done all year it didn't take long to get on the score sheet. The deadly Mc Sparron was put through and from 20 yards lobbed the Eglinton keeper with a great finish number 2 wasn't long away and again it was Mc Sparron a goalkeeping error let trevor in and there was only going to be one outcome.2-0.with Newtowne now upping it a gear the back 4 very solid with O'Reilly looking very sharp and Morrison attacking at every opportunity. Michael O'Brien and Neil Mullan dealing brilliantly with anything that did come their way. The midfield of Johnstone and Logue were playing some good football linking well and driving forward. The duo of Ferris and Gazza also looking for the ball and attacking with pace approaching the 30min mark Newtowne were awarded a free kick Johnstone rolled the ball to Mullan who from 25yards smashed it into bottom corner.3-0 at half-time.
In comparison the 2 nd half in total was completely different to the first, Newtowne never really started, looked sluggish and probably thought the game was over, an attitude that mustn't creep in and needs to be addressed if we are to achieve all our goals for this season. We must learn to push hard for the full ninety minutes. With a few changes made to freshen things up Conor O Hara then headed in the newts fourth. Even though Newtowne didn't reach the level they can and should be at Eglinton never really threatened us in any way and they were just content to see the game out. Newtowne then scored two quick goals in succession O Reilly whipped in a great ball and the deadly O'Brien scored with a great diving header, a few minutes later O'Brien scored his second with a great header. Eglinton then got on the score sheet with a slight suspicion of offside. Coming near the end of the game and undoubtedly goal of the match was scored by Blain Morrison, cutting in from the left back position from all of 25 yards he released a great left footed strike into the top right hand corner. Newtowne will not be content with their second half performance not good enough if they want to continue on the great run that they are on, they need to keep training hard and stay focused all the time.
