Newtowne 5 - 2 Comber Rec Res

The first half of this game followed the same pattern as previous weeks. A bright start, a comfortable lead and then poo in the nest for a period.Trevor McSparron put Newtowne 2-0 in the first half hour with a well taken brace. The Newtowne boys well on top against a big physical Comber side.

Comber got back in the game when Millar scored. There was a slight suspicion that Millar was four yards offside but that was missed. Gazza Moore continued his scoring spree with a goal to make it 3-1. Newtowne should have shut shop and consolidated the kead before the break but didn't and allowed a soft goal in to make it 3-2 at the break.

Familiar ring to this report or what. Callaghan did well to stop a Comber break early in the second half. Newtowne always looked good on the break and were denied a chance when Woods was ruled offside when he was through. Woods was the key to the crucial move of the match. Hew was scythed down inside the box. Trevor McSparron calmy slotted home to make it 4-2 to Newtowne.

Newtowne took complete comntrol at this stage. Some of the challenges from Comber got a bit physical at this stage and all went unpunished. I don't like to see anyone booked but if players get away with kicking someone then players will get seriously hurt.

Trevor McSparron made it 5-2 when he scored after a tussle with the keeper. To me McSparron fouled the goalie. Cunningham had a fine game in the Comber net. Newtowne had a great chance to make it 6-2 soon after when Morrison was taken down inside the box, somehow the ref played on. Stephen Johnstone and Paul Moore had chancces late on but these were not taken.

Overall it was an effective dispaly from Newtowne but they need to keep a clean sheet.
