Newtowne 6-0 Claudy Utd

In a game that Newtowne were expected to win quite easily for the 1 st half at least it wasn't as easy as some people thought. Claudy battled hard with some very strong challenges but from the off set only one team tried to win the game and that was Newtowne.

For long periods Claudy got everyone behind the ball and made it difficult for Newtowne to break them down. Even though Newtowne weren't on top form some neat and tidy football was being played. A changed back four of R Logue, O'Reilly, Mullan and Morrison were starting most attacks because no Claudy player was near them. Both the full backs Logue and Morrison were attacking most of the game O'Reilly and Mullan coping well with the little danger Claudy offered. The midfield of G Logue, Harkin, Woods and Mc Sparron were continually pushing forward and that's what broke the deadlock. Gerdy Logue broke for midfield into the right corner and his cross (come shot) somehow managed to go over the keeper to put Newtowne 1 up.

Harkin and McSparron were causing problems every time they got the ball, with woodsy tidy on the ball trying to get Newtowne up a gear. Bratton and Ferris were also causing problems and apart from a few dubious off side decisions might have had 1 or 2 between them. With Newtowne continuously pushing for number 2 from a corner came just before halftime. Neil Mullan rise to head home but the ball struck the crossbar but rebounded to the alert McSparron who made no mistake. Sweet against his former club am sure. The 2 nd half continued in the same vain with Gazza coming on for Ferris, Newtowne kept pushing for more goals. With the level improving slightly number 3 came after good work by McSparron on left his cross found Bratton unmarked and he tucked away a great header. Goal number 4 came when Logue played a great through ball to McSparron who calmly finished from 18 yards. Claudy did have a couple of opportunities late on but O'Callaghan and O'Reilly were unbeatable. Goal 5 came when Bratton broke down left and found Gazza who tidily tucked away. Goal 6 was nearly identical Bratton again this time finding Ryan Logue who also calmly finished.

Overall Newtowne must be content so far this season winning every game but nothings won yet and the level all round must rise if they are going to achieve success. There's a big squad and everyone must play there part and stick together, this could be a season to remember so we must not throw it away!
