Newtowne 5 v 0 Burndennett

BFC

If Newtowne were going to break the record of successive wins at the start of the season they couldn't have wished for a better opportunity, perfect day, perfect pitch and after 3 mins a perfect start.

Newtowne got off to a flying start with everyone looking really sharp and focused trying to achieve the unthinkable eleven wins in a row. With everyone pressing hard from the kick off only a couple of minutes were gone when RyanLlogue picked the ball up on the half way line and made a great run to the Burndennett 18yard box and when he crossed the ball a Burndennett player handled in the box, without question a penalty, up stepped the reliable Trevor McSparron to smash the penalty safely home.

Newtowne really did up the gears then playing some brillant 1 and 2 touch football, numerous chances were created, Mc Sparron was put through again but failed to hit the target, Ferris also could of got on the score sheet but his effort was saved, then it was Ryan Logue's turn also failing to score with a header from 4 yards out unmarked. At this stage Newtowne were totally dominating all over the pitch with Woodsey, Johnston and Morrison doing a lot of damage. On the fifteen minute mark a free kick was awarded for a foul on Ferris, 25 yards from goal resulting in Stevie Johnston smashing it home into the bottom corner. A few minutes later a great 60 yard run by Blain Morrison ended by his cross being turned into the Burndennett goal by one of their own players.

The pace and movement by all of the Newtowne players seemed to be too much for the away team to handle, then just before half time it was four nil, great play by Mc Sparron who then chipped a perfect pass to Ferris who from 18 yards struck superbly into the top corner. At half time it was a first class display, some great passing and moving everyone was on the top of their game. O'Reilly and Morrison attacking at every opportunity, O'Brien and O'Hara in total control, the midfield of Mc Sparron, R Logue, Johnston and G Logue were excellent throughout. Marty Woods also always looking for the ball and linking the play up brilliantly a great display from him. Ferris with a new hunger about him looking very sharp.

With Neill Mullan, Gazza Moore and Marty Harkin coming on just after halftime it showed the quality throughout the whole squad. Very few teams would have that quality to call upon. Newtowne just continued to control all areas with numerous chances to add to the four goals. The quality of football was still very good despite the number of heavy challenges, number five finally came with a great ball in by Marty Harkin was met by Conor O'Hara with a thumping header.

A lot of credit to all the squad for the start they have had eleven victories in succession is not easy done as every other manager will tell you. We have a very determined bunch of players who are working very hard to achieve this. Callaghan, O'Reilly, O'Brien, O'Hara, Morrison, R Logue, Johnstone, G Logue, Mc Sparron, Woods, Ferris, Mullan, Moore, Harkin
