Newtowne made it into the last 32 of The PFC Irish Junior Cup with a comfortable win over Portstewart Olympic. It was a good win for Newtowne over an in form Olympic.
Newtowne started well with Loughery and Harkin causing trouble for the visitors. Walsh was a thorn in Portstewart's side from early on. He repeatedly won ball as Newtowne dominated the early possession.
Loughery had Newtowne's best openings but was unlucky not to score when he rose well but headed just wide. Despite being on the back foot Portstewart almost took the lead only to be denied by a brilliant save from Sam Norris.
Newtowne took the lead in the 38th minute. Mark Magee's cross eluded McKeever and Moffat and ended up resting in the back of the net

Portstewart had a good 15 minutes at the start of the second half. However Norris dealt well with the only shot he had to save. The Olympic keeper made a brilliant save from Loughery in a breakaway attack.
It was during this period of Portstewart ascendancy that Newtowne scored again. Loughery sent Harkin free and he outpaced Tosh to score, a fine goal. Harkin's goal ended the contest.
Newtowne missed a number of chances to extend the lead before Walsh made it 3-0. The busy midfielder fired home after controlling a Morrison cross. After swallowing a litre of Imodium Plus Burns came on at the end but unlike the night before his runs had no substance.
Overall this was a good performance from the understrength Newts against a fancied Portstewart team. The visitors were disappointed with their display. In a good team display Norris, Walsh, Magee and O'Hara stood out.
