The scoreline says it all really. Foylebank arrived late with a weakened squad of 11 . Newtowne took the lead from Anthony Loughery early on and from that point it was one way traffic.

Loughery's goal was soon followed by a goal from Mickey Walsh. When Loughery made it 3-0 after a great run from Blain Morrison it was a matter of how many. Loughery scored his hat trick to make it 40 after only 22 minutes.

Foylebank had one chance of note but an excellent tackle from Paddy Higgins stopped a shot on goal. Higgins had a fine game on his debut.

Three more goals followed before the break. Morrison scored with a daisy cutter to make it 5-0. Last week at Yankees Mark Dixon sat on Santa's knee and asked if he could he have a goal for Christmas and this wish came true for No. 6. Mickey Burns showed great control and accuracy for goal number 7.

HT Newtowne 7-0 Foylebank

It was eight immediately after the restart. Gary Moore slotting a shot under the keeper's arms.

A lack of concentration allowed Foylebank a consolation goal from a free kick but this was followed by two more from the home team. Marty Harkin showed a clean pair of heels to fire in a great centre which Anthony Loughery tucked in to make it 9-1. The wing assault continued for the tenth. Morrison skipped past his marker and sent in a lovely cross which Loughery laid off for Gazza Moore to finish.

The game finished in a surreal atmosphere. The crowd were treated to a horrendous miss from Blain Morrison late on.

Foylebank are in a dire position on the league and they will have to improve dramatically and soon if they are to salvage their league status. To their credit they battled on the end and didn't resort to physical tactics.

Newtowne now have O'Reilly and Ryan Magee back from suspension and new boys Gary Moore and Patrick Higgins played really well in their first Newtowne outing.

Games like this can be difficult to officiate and Ivan Buchanan did a really good job with his common sense approach.
