Churchill 0 - 13 Newtowne |
 |
The scoreline says it all. Newtowne made it through to the quarter final of the inaugural Sentinel League Cup with an easy win over Churchill.
The game was over after 30 minutes when Newtowne went 4 up. Rory O'Reilly scored a brace early on. Harkin was involved in both. Newtowne's third was the pick of the goals. a lovely solo run from Blain Morrison saw the sun god blast the ball past the Churchill keeper into the top corner. New boy O'reilly nabbed his hat trick before 30 minutes.
It was seven by half time with goals from Nicholl, Loughery and the industrious Walsh.
The second half continued in a similar vain. Loughery completed his hat trick. Morrison bagged a hat trick also, the hat trick coming on the whistle. Burns and wilson completed the Newtowne scoring.
This was an impressive Newtowne show. They played good football on the deck and looked very sharp throughout. Newtowne now look forward to the quarter final next Saturday.
This is not meant to be patronising but Churchill deserve great credit. Despite the scoreline they played on , trying hard. Never once did they resort to physical tactics nor did they quarrel among themselves. This is a game too early for them and I hope they do well this season. The showed a level of sportmanship which did their club credit on Saturday.
