This game had just about everything. stunning goals, goal mouth drama, cards, passion, some great cameos of skill and some defensive howlers. With 1 minute left Newtowne lead 5-3 but two late howlers handed Lincoln a point in a very bad tempered game at sunny Scroggy Rd.

In a lively opening both teams had good chances. It was the visitors who took the lead. The ball fell to Kolyn Patterson and from 30 yards he rifled a super goal into the roof of the net it was a stunning strike.

The goal was cancelled soon after when Derek Wilson volleyed from a yard out when the Lincoln defence stood static. It was nip and tuck at this point as both teams went at each other..literally.

When Simpson scored a fine second goal the fireworks began. Both teams were lucky to have 11 men after a couple of x rated tackles.

HT Newtowne 1- 2 Lincoln

The second half was one of the liveliest I have seen in a long time at any level. Lincoln went three - one up with a wonderful goal from the influential Simpson. However after the goal he was red carded .

A Newtowne comeback was signalled when debut boy Neill Mullan scored after replacing the injured Wilson. With the game 70 minutes old Mullan scored again, he glanced in a superb header to make it 3-3.

Newtowne took control at this point with Walsh the architect of most attacks. Indeed it was Walsh who set up number 4. He found Morrison and he steadied and shot in from inside the box .

With 12 minutes remaining Newtowne looked to have sealed the game when Morrison scored a screamer from outside the box. In the minutes the followed a number of cards were brandished but no one saw the newly tiled Scroggy Rd showers.

With the clock ticking down and 3 points inevitable Lincoln salvaged a point. Kolyn Patterson scored after a goalkeeping error. With seconds left Lincoln were awarded a free but it was defended successfully but the clearance landed at a Lincoln player. When his shot wasn't saved McHale scored to make it 5-5.

For the third league running Lincoln snatched a point in the last minute of the game. However this is the first that Newtowne deserved to win. Newtowne got a point but if felt like a defeat,

The home side played well and despite conceeding five the Newts defended well. Neill Mullan played well on his Newtowne debut. Patterson and Simpson's goals were top quality. Walsh had a stormer in the middle as did Nicholl. Up front Loughery and Burns were a handful. As the game progressed Morrison became more influential. Lincoln showed great character to come back from 5-3 down . defensively McHale had a fine game while Simpson was in fine form in the middle. Up front Patterson was a threat each time he had the ball.

FT Newtowne 5 - 5 Lincoln
